Apply review feedback inside the source document

Source-backed example. Practical decision guidance is proposed and untested; this is not a full implementation guide.

The problem

Document feedback creates extra coordination when the relevant comment, proposed wording and source paragraph must be reconciled by hand.

Agent job

Locate a specified Google Doc comment, reply to it and insert revised prose at the relevant location.

Expected output

A comment reply and revised text in the source document.

Why use this

  1. A writer handling document feedback can lose track of which paragraph a comment refers to, especially after other collaborators edit nearby text. A seemingly sensible revision may resolve a different issue or overwrite newer wording.

  2. A targeted change preview could connect the reviewer’s request, existing passage and proposed revision before editing. A concise reply could explain the intended change without claiming that the reviewer has accepted it.

Why an agent / simpler alternative

Useful judgment

Interpret feedback in its surrounding passage and preserve the author’s intended meaning.

Simpler alternative

Edit directly when the comment identifies an obvious typo or exact replacement.

Unsuitable when

Feedback conflicts with instructions or the document has changed beyond reliable anchoring.

Proposed inputs

  1. Name

    Target comment

    Owner

    Document owner

    Minimum scope

Exact comment reference, author and requested change

    Quality check

Verify the request is authorized and still unresolved.

  2. Name

    Document excerpt

    Owner

    Document owner

    Minimum scope

Anchored passage and necessary surrounding text

    Quality check

Check current revision and tracked collaborator changes.

Access and setup — proposed or unknown

Proposed minimum
  1. Read-only comment and text copies; proposed patch before live editing.

Compatibility unknowns
  1. Unknown: exact runtime, Google Docs access and comment-anchor support.

External actions requiring approval
  1. Posting comment replies, editing shared prose or resolving discussion threads.

Expected deliverable and review checks

Proposed artifact

Before-and-after passage, exact insertion target and proposed comment reply.

Critical checks
  1. Revision addresses the specified feedback without unrelated edits.

  2. Claims and citations remain accurate and the reply describes only proposed work.

Missing output evidence

No new live edit, comment reply or collaborative acceptance test occurs here.

Failure signals and proposed responses

  1. Signal

The original comment anchor points to text that has moved.

    Why it matters

The edit could alter the wrong section.

    Proposed response

Reidentify the passage with the owner before any write.

  2. Signal

Feedback requests a stronger factual claim than the evidence supports.

    Why it matters

A stylistic revision could introduce misinformation.

    Proposed response

Offer qualified wording and flag the missing support.

Effort and cost — unknown

Setup work
  1. Capture the latest passage and requested scope.

Ongoing review
  1. Check concurrent changes and author approval.

Unknowns
  1. Unknown: document tooling limits, formatting preservation and review effort.

First check — proposed, unexecuted

Status

proposed_unexecuted

Synthetic fixture

A fictional comment asks to clarify a sentence; a nearby paragraph contains similar wording but a different claim.

Acceptance checks
  1. Only the anchored sentence changes.

  2. The reply describes the limited revision without declaring acceptance.

Stop conditions
  1. The correct location or authorized interpretation cannot be resolved.

Limits

  1. Editorial edit preview; source recipe does not establish this document’s permissions.
