Preserve shared attachments in a searchable archive
Source-backed example. Practical decision guidance is proposed and untested; this is not a full implementation guide.
The problem
Attachments shared in conversations become difficult to find and trust when originals, context and duplicate copies are scattered.
Agent job
Archive attachments from authorized channels, preserve provenance, calculate checksums and create searchable text companions and an indexed inventory.
Expected output
A verified attachment archive with originals, provenance, checksums and searchable companions in the approved destination.

Why use this
A project team searching old attachments may find duplicate names, missing context and text extracts that cannot be traced to originals. An archive can appear complete while quietly excluding failed downloads or mixing material from unrelated channels.
A provenance-led inventory could show what was collected, where it came from and whether integrity checks remain unresolved. Searchable companions would support discovery while the original files remain authoritative for layout and exact content.
Why an agent / simpler alternative
- Useful judgment
Organize attachment context and distinguish duplicate content from different files sharing a name.
- Simpler alternative
Use a platform export when it already preserves the necessary files and provenance.
- Unsuitable when
Channel scope, destination permissions or sensitive-content handling is unclear.

- Owner

- Minimum scope
Specific channels, date bounds and authorized destination
- Quality check

- Minimum scope
File references, message context and available metadata
- Quality check

Access and setup — proposed or unknown
- Proposed minimum
Read-only inventory planning before any downloads or destination writes.
- Compatibility unknowns
Unknown: exact runtime, attachment access, extraction formats and storage limits.
- External actions requiring approval
Downloading sensitive files, writing outside the approved domain or sharing the archive and its text companions.
Expected deliverable and review checks
- Proposed artifact
Archive manifest linking originals, provenance, integrity-check status and proposed searchable companions.
- Critical checks
Every scoped attachment is accounted for as archived or unresolved.
Text companions remain linked to originals and inherit appropriate access limits.
- Missing output evidence
No downloads, checksums, text extraction or archive verification is performed here.
Failure signals and proposed responses
- Signal
Different files share the same filename.
- Why it matters
A naive archive could overwrite a distinct attachment.
- Proposed response
Use provenance-aware identifiers and preserve both until content equality is checked.
- Signal
A text extract drops a table while the original remains intact.
- Why it matters
Search results could misrepresent the source document.
- Proposed response
Mark extraction limitations and direct review back to the original.
Effort and cost — unknown
- Setup work
Define scope, destination and provenance fields.
- Ongoing review
Reconcile failed items and inspect extraction exceptions.
- Unknowns
Unknown: storage costs, access completeness and extraction-review effort.
First check — proposed, unexecuted
- Status
proposed_unexecuted
- Synthetic fixture
An invented inventory includes same-name distinct attachments, one inaccessible file and a table-heavy document.
- Acceptance checks
No distinct file is overwritten or silently omitted.
The inaccessible and extraction-risk items remain flagged.
- Stop conditions
Cross-profile access or destination permission is unresolved.
Limits
Editorial archive design; a proposed inventory does not establish verified preservation.

- tool_action
- What the source supports
- Walks channel attachments, records provenance, downloads originals, computes checksums, creates searchable Markdown siblings and verifies an indexed inventory.
- Source outcome limits
- This community recipe describes a procedure; it does not prove successful execution or independently reproduced results.
- Evidence attribution caveat
- This community recipe describes a procedure; it does not prove successful execution or independently reproduced results.
- Source approval description
- User request initiates archive; source asks when domain is unclear and restricts cross-profile writes and sensitive chat disclosures.
