Unsubscribe selected unread mailing lists

Source-backed example. Practical decision guidance is proposed and untested; this is not a full implementation guide.

The problem

Repeatedly unopened mailing lists fill the inbox, but choosing which subscriptions to remove still needs owner control.

Agent job

Identify likely unwanted lists, present a selection and execute approved unsubscribe requests.

Expected output

A reviewed set of unsubscribe actions.

Case-specific decision guidance · untested

Why use this

  1. An inbox owner may repeatedly leave newsletters unread while still valuing some for occasional reference. Read status is only a weak signal of preference, and a sender may operate several lists with different purposes.

  2. A selection preview could show why each list is a candidate and let the owner choose exactly what to stop. Action results would need to distinguish a submitted unsubscribe request from verified removal, without deleting existing mail by assumption.

Why an agent / simpler alternative

Useful judgment

Group messages into distinct mailing lists and explain selection evidence without deciding preferences for the owner.

Simpler alternative

Use the email app’s unsubscribe control for a few known unwanted lists.

Unsuitable when

The sender identity or unsubscribe destination appears suspicious or list scope is ambiguous.

Proposed inputs

  1. Name

    Mailing-list sample

    Owner

    Mailbox owner

    Minimum scope

Relevant sender/list identifiers and limited read-history signals

    Quality check

    Avoid reading unrelated personal mail.

  2. Name

    Owner selection

    Owner

    Mailbox owner

    Minimum scope

Explicit list choices and any lists to retain

    Quality check

Confirm whether similarly named subscriptions are separate.

Access and setup — proposed or unknown

Proposed minimum
  1. Read-only list summary and private selection checklist before unsubscribe actions.

Compatibility unknowns
  1. Unknown: exact runtime, Gmail access, list-unsubscribe support and provider response.

External actions requiring approval
  1. Unsubscribing selected lists, changing broader notification settings or deleting/archiving messages.

Expected deliverable and review checks

Proposed artifact

Owner-reviewed list selection and proposed action-status record.

Critical checks
  1. Each action targets the selected list rather than every message from the organization.

  2. Requested, confirmed and uncertain unsubscribe states remain distinct.

Missing output evidence

No new workflow run or output inspection is performed for this editorial layer. The linked implementation evidence retains the original source-specific outcome and artifact limits.

Failure signals and proposed responses

  1. Signal

A sender uses one address for newsletters and service notices.

    Why it matters

A broad action could suppress useful communications.

    Proposed response

Identify list-specific controls and ask the owner if scope remains unclear.

  2. Signal

An unsubscribe link redirects to an unexpected or suspicious destination.

    Why it matters

Following it could create privacy or account risk.

    Proposed response

Stop and use a verified provider control or return the item for owner review.

Effort and cost — unknown

Setup work
  1. Identify distinct lists and collect explicit choices.

Ongoing review
  1. Check uncertain results without repeatedly submitting requests.

Unknowns
  1. Unknown: provider processing, inbox-signal reliability and action support.

First check — proposed, unexecuted

Status

proposed_unexecuted

Synthetic fixture

Invented messages include two lists from one company, only one selected for removal, plus a suspicious destination.

Acceptance checks
  1. The unselected list remains untouched in the plan.

  2. The suspicious action is held.

Stop conditions
  1. Selection, destination identity or account-setting scope is unresolved.

Limits

  1. Editorial subscription review; unread messages do not establish lasting disinterest or successful removal.
